Roaring Sequoia is just starting to get their feet under them with a spate of songs that take you from mythology to third world violence and back home, searching for love in a diseased culture or appeasement at the apocalypse. The songwriting is poetic with a political edge, looking for a space where we can reconcile our hearts with our civilization. Jordan Gerow's voice throbs and aches with an immediacy of feeling, while Lana Staffords prodigious gifts on flute teem in the songs, giving a very organic, melodically striking accent to the mostly acoustic driven folk rock. Hanna Lipkinds inspired percussion defies simple rhythms and goes for the ear catching, exciting and unexpected, while her harmonies fill out the sound.
