The Lower Town Trio started off with two brothers from Lockport, NY. Chris and Jason Van Cleve who were both into rockabilly wanted to start playing music together for fun at a local Open Mic Night. Chris, who is also the former drummer for The Quakes wanted to start a new project. Jason formally played upright bass for local bands like The Rhythm Ranglers, Blue Rocket Trio, and for a very short time with The Quakes, wanted to take the role as lead guitar and vocalist. All the brothers needed now was a bass player. To fill the void entered Ryan Hurley who was a friend of Jasons. Ryan, whos been playing guitar for years in local rock and punk bands, loved the rockabilly sound and decided to buy his first upright bass off eBay. Since Chris and Jason both played the upright it didnt take long before Ryan mastered it as well. The trio started practicing a couple times a week and a few open mics later the band was complete. Now all they needed was a name. A friend, as a joke, suggested The Lower Town Trio because Chris and Jason both grew up in an area of Lockport called Lowertown - the name stuck. The Trio plays original music as well as covers from artists like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash to Social Distortion and the Misfits. The Lower Town Trios sound is a mix between the British punk rock and the American rockabilly of the 50s which has been given the name psychobilly. One critic described it as classic rock n roll and rockabilly on steroids with a fast beat. The Lower Town Trio has been playing at bars and clubs all over Western New York and after only a few months already has a large group of dedicated followers. The Trio loves playing high energy music and always delivers a good time.
