Peanut Brittle Satellite

Website: www.myspace.com/peanutbrittlesatellite

Peanut Brittle Satellite began to form in the summer of 2007. It was originally a project started by Evan "Karl" Courtin (violin) and Zach Kushner (keys) in order to give a New York City open-mic a little taste of some Buffalo jam. PBS was put on the backburner for a while until Zack Mikida (guitar) presented the two of them with his own idea for a group. Since then, its members have been making the craziest music each of them can think of. With the line-up expanded to include Shawn Brandel (drums), Ryan Campbell (even more drums), Ian Machniak (bass), and Andy McGirr (violin crazy person), they have the palette to paint some serious sonic landscapes.

PBS's sound is nearly all instrumental, with influences ranging from head-banging metal to jazz fusion to classical contemporaries. The band also owes a supreme amount of inspiration to the local group Gamalon, whose members have been closely entwined with PBS's musical education for years.

Even with PBS in its early stages, the songs they make are extremely diverse. "Corrosive Joseph" is an instrumental song about an acid-spitting shark. It jumps from hard rocking fight music to whimsical interludes to a jaunty finale. "Louis" has a driving feel to it with very unique structure for the lead guitar and violin parts going straight into an all out Russian jig. "Moment Dreamt" is just what it sounds like. Its initial riff came straight from a lengthy musical dream, and from there, it stems into a watery, melodic atmosphere.

Peanut Brittle Satellite's mission is to put thought and meaning into every song they write. They'll make their grandmothers proud.
