The Western New York Chorale, with music director Herbert Tinney, has a long history of presenting highly-acclaimed performances of both early and contemporary music. The members of the Chorale share an interest in early music and singing in a small ensemble. We invite you to join us in celebrations of little heard music. The Chorale is one of the few community-based choral ensembles in this area which regularly perform music from the pre-medieval through the 18th century - the time frame identified as "early music". Why specialize in early music? It is the foundation upon which later music has built. The composers of those early centuries invented and developed the basic rules of music theory and harmonywhich are the roots of all Western music up to the present time-- even the most avant garde. Beyond its historical inportance, though, performers and audiences alike continue to find a freshness, a clarity, a certain luminosity, in its logical structures, from the simplest medieval chant to the complexity of the polyphony of Bach, or Byrd, or Palestrina -- or Josquin.
