BUFFALO PREPS FOR THE SECOND ANNUAL "INFRINGEMENT FESTIVAL" OF THEATER, PERFORMANCE, AND MULTIMEDIA, COMING THIS SUMMER. Buffalo Infringement Festival dates: July 27-August 6, 2006
For ten days in the summer of 2005, the streets of Allentown came alive with over 150 performances by local and visiting theater and dance companies, puppeteers, media artists, poets, comics, musicians, cabaret acts, virtual reality designers, and miscellaneous insurrectionists. This year, by popular demand, the “Buffalo Infringement Festival” will be back to show the City of Good Neighbors that exciting art can happen anywhere, anytime, without a blockbuster budget. (Or any budget at all, for that matter.) From July 27-August 6, 2006, the Infringement Festival will celebrate the great quantity and quality of small-scale theater and other art forms that flourish year-round in Western New York, while providing a forum for artists and audiences of all backgrounds to come together, take chances, push boundaries, and explore uncharted territory. Members of Buffalo's thriving arts community are joining forces once again to produce this ambitious grassroots gathering of eclectic, independent, experimental, and politically charged productions by groups and individuals from around the world. The festival is open to performances of all styles, lengths, subject matters, and genres. The emphasis is on live performance, but all forms of art are open for consideration. While there is no entry fee, participating artists are asked to make a small donation of time or money to support the festival, and they are solely responsible for all technical and operating costs involved in the production and presentation of their projects. All income from each project will go directly to the artists involved. Application forms will be available at the festival website (www.infringebuffalo.org) and at various establishments around town, including Rust Belt Books. Completed proposals are due April 1, 2006 and may be e-mailed to proposals@infringebuffalo.org or snail-mailed or hand delivered to Rust Belt Books (Attn Infringement Festival, 202 Allen Street, Buffalo, NY 14201). Proposals arriving after the April 1 deadline will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. The Buffalo festival is part of an international circuit including similar events in Montreal, Ottawa, New York City, Philadelphia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Regina, and Saskatchewan, among other cities. For more information on the international Infringement movement, see www.infringementfestival.com. Members of the community who are interested in helping to organize the 2006 Buffalo Infringement Festival are invited to attend an open meeting on Monday, February 27, 6 p.m. at the Allen Street Hardware Café (245 Allen Street). Future meetings will be advertisted on the festival website, and new volunteers are always welcome. -END- |
