International Infringement Festival

Information for Performers

This section holds info for people putting on shows at the Buffalo Infringement Festival (performers, producers, etc.).

Late-breaking opportunities to perform in the festival

  • S.Vestas (the fire dancers) are staging a "mayhem parade" on Thursday, Aug. 3 starting at 8 p.m. at Nickel City Co-Op (208 North at Porter) and heading toward [[http://infringebuffalo.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/IF06/DaysPark | Days Park]. Wear a costume and join in the mayhem.
  • Curt Bishof of TheBodyBeautiful is asking for help in "rounding up anyone who may agree to be partially painted as contestants or as part of their own performances" for a parade from Nickel City to Rust Belt and the New Phoenix on Saturday, July 29. Nudity is NOT involved. This is now an arms, shoulders, neck & face painting with non-toxic theatrical paints." He adds, "This could also mean that the theatrical make-up painting might possibly be available during the remainder of the Festival until August 6th. Though not as a scheduled performance, just an improvised drop-in & make-up gig." Read his full message here for locations and times.
  • Car Stories (from Montreal) is looking for Buffalo performers to join their improvisational cast for the first weekend of the festival. (They could also use some additional cars in the show if you'd like to donate yours for the weekend.) Email them at optativelabs@yahoo.ca, asap. More info here.
  • AestheticMeltdown is a "living documentary" about the festival. Director and Gallery 141B owner Jim requests that festival artists stop by his space (141B Elmwood, in back, to the right) or email greenglenb@aol.com to participate. "Add your 2cents about infringe art/life/culture. I am just doing a little video souls art project, which can maybe be broadcast, All comments, images, or performances 'under the radar' are accepted." You can promote/discuss your own show or anyone else's, or the festival as a whole. More info here.
  • ShakespeareInTheParkingLot invites you to stage a brief scene from any Shakespeare play or sonnet on the street outside the Hardware Cafe (245 Allen) at 10 pm on Saturday, August 5. You can prepare something, or show up and work with whatever scripts we have on hand. Costumes and props are welcome but not necessary; we'll provide a few stray items if you want them.
  • Acoustic and spoken-word performers are invited to take the stage during the nightly Happy Hour from 10-11 pm on the back patio of La Tee Da (206 Allen St.). Festival acts may want to use this an opportunity to present brief previews of their shows. Contact Matt LaChiusa (MLachiusa @ aol.com) to sign up or get more details.

Publicity

Just a reminder: It is up to you to promote your own show in any ways you can. ((IF YOU ARE JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS NOW FOR THE 2006 FESTIVAL, YOU ARE PROBABLY TOO LATE. MOST MEDIA OUTLETS NEED MATERIALS AT LEAST 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE AN EVENT, THE SOONER THE BETTER.) We have our hands full trying to get attention for the festival as a whole (in the hopes that some of this attention will find its way to your work!), and we are not able to send out press releases or post flyers for individual shows. However, Publicity Dude Ron Ehmke is maintaining a handy (though incomplete) e-mail list of media outlets and he is happy to share it with anyone from the fest who asks him for it (ronehmke @ adelphia . net). If you have a list of your own you're willing to disseminate, please let him know and he'll add your contacts to the master list for the benefit of future generations.

Also, please contribute any PR photos/videos/MP3s you have (that could be used by newspapers etc) to the ArtistsPhotos page.

Housing

Housing, for out-of-town performers, is being handled through a Yahoo group. Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/crash-buffalo for details.

Remember:

  • This service is just for performers, not attendees of the the Festival.
  • This is entirely volunteer, catch-as-catch-can; the Festival makes no guarantees of free housing - you may have to look for a hotel.
  • The only way to get this housing is to join & e-mail crash-buffalo. Don't try contacting the organizing committee - we'll just redirect you to the Yahoo group.

Proposals

The call for proposals is now closed. For reference, the proposal forms are still on the Proposals page.

Submissions for next year will most likely be due between March 1 and April 1, 2007; watch the News page for updates.
